St. John Yi Yunil

Saint John Yi was born in 1815 to a Christian family in Naepo, Chungcheong
province.
To escape persecution, he moved to Yeowoomok, Munkyong, where he
was a catechist.
He had a strong faith and was generous. All the fellow
believers who lived with him respected him.
On November 1866, he was
arrested with 30 fellow believers which include his family and was tansferred to
Sangju.
On January 1867, he was sentenced to death and was brought to Daegu.
And finally he was beheaded at Gwandeokdang.
He was canonized by Pope John
Paul Ⅱ on May 6, 1984.
His remains are enshrined under the altar of the
chapel in Gwandeokjeong Martyrs' Shrine since January 20, 1991.
